The Northern Outer Banks (including the communities of Seagull, Penny's Hill, Carova Beach, Swan Beach and Ocean Beach) is definitely a place where you can get away from it all! This area is quite literally off the beaten path given that it can only be accessed by four-wheel drive vehicles. There are no paved roads into the communities however the area boasts all types of homes from mobile homes on pilings to million dollar beach houses that sleep up to 25 people. There are also many lots for sale in this area that offer the opportunity to build your dream home! Many homes offer luxuries such as heated swimming pools, hot tubs etc. making this ideal for quiet luxury. With no grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants etc. you will want to plan ahead but the results will be worth it.
Set along the 11 miles that stretch from Corolla to the Virginia state line, this area offers a quiet vacation and wide, beautiful beaches. The area is bounded on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by the Currituck Sound.
It is in this area that you might just be lucky enough to spot some of the Outer Banks Spanish mustangs that roam free along the dunes and the beach. It is important to remember that if you do see the horses don't approach, attempt to ride, pet or feed the horses though - it is against the law and puts both animals and people in danger. Simply stay back and enjoy their majesty and beauty. If you would like to learn more about the horses and how you can help protect them, visit http://www.corollawildhorses.com/.
